We would love to have you join us as we work with homeless men and women in Austin.

ReWork Mentorship

One of the consistent things we’ve seen present in the lives of every man and woman who has been successful at Rework is the presence of healthy relationship with people outside of their context of homelessness. It’s still amazing to me how the simple act of friendship is one of the most powerful tools to helping get people off the streets. Recognizing this, I’d like to invite each of you to join our mentor program and develop lasting friendships with our men and women. A ReWork Mentor, simply put, is a friend. We are asking little else than to extend friendship the way you would to any other person. Interested? 

We will be holding a Mentor Orientation on February 16th at 10am for anyone wanting to pursue becoming a mentor. The orientation will be held at ReWork Project in the New City Center (4201 S Congress Ave Suite 303, Austin TX 78745). No sign up necessary.

First Thursday 

On the first Thursday of every month, the shops and restraunts along South Congress hold an event aptly named ‘First Thursday’, staying open late, offering specials and inviting local artists and craftsman to setup booths along the street. ReWork Project has had a booth for the past few months and will continue to be present through 2013. The ReWork booth is in the parking lot of St Vincent De Paul. First Thursday is a great event and a lot of fun. We will be there in February and would love to see you there.

In addition to having people visit, we need help setting up and staffing the booth. Send us an email at volunteer@ReWorkProject.org and let us know when you can help.

Because of your efforts we received dozens of canvases, paint brushes, screws and other items that will carry ReWorkers through the next several months. If you missed out or want to know what some of ReWork’s ongoing needs are, we have a new section of the website dedicated to material needs. We will be keeping this list up to date with current needs and are always blessed by your donations.

The result of their efforts is the 1st annual ReWork supply drive. We have a beautiful Christmas tree setup in the lobby of Soma Church with requests for items that will allow ReWorkers to continue creating items to sell, and work towards getting off the street.

Below is a list of items for various projects at ReWork. Would you consider blessing ReWorkers this season by gifting one or more of the following items?

You can drop items off Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 9am and 5pm at ReWork, or Sunday mornings at Soma Church. We are located at 4201 S Congress Ave Suite 303, Austin TX 78745.

Bamboo walking sticks by Joel. Keep an eye out as he’s currently working on another batch. If you haven’t looked through some of our other recently added products, come take a look.

Draggin’ Bamboo walking sticks are made with no chemicals. The shine is brought about by heat, pulling the bamboo’s natural sugars to the surface and polishing with a cloth. Shine can be restored in this manner. Each one is unique in its own way and very little is done, considering the natural beauty that already exists. All bamboo used is local to Austin. Enjoy!

The market pulls several thousand people every year and Revival has blessed ReWork Project with a booth in a great location. Over the past couple weeks, ReWorkers have been working hard to turn out products and we have dozens of pieces of art, jewelry, furniture and all kinds of other cool things.

Come on my and check out the ReWork tent, as well as all the other vendors who will be there this weekend.

Come join us at Austin Ridge for a free, family movie night. We will watch the movie Courageous and have concessions available for purchase. All money collected will benefit the ReWork Project of Austin. Doors will open at 6pm and showtime is scheduled for 6:30.

Please note that Courageous is rated PG-13 for some of the themes involved. Many have said that ages 10 and older would be appropriate, but we encourage you to read an in-depth review of this movie and decide what is best for your family.

This event is free of charge, open to the public, and childcare will be provided. We need a head count and you must register for childcare so please RSVP. Don’t miss out on a great movie and the opportunity for fun and fellowship with the community.

Part of our goal is to provide development for anyone who regularly engages men and women who have experienced a wide variety of difficult situations. These situations could include substance abuse, severe depressions, suicide, domestic violence, sexual abuse and other life crisis. What do you do when someone drops one of these “bombs” in a conversation? What do you say? How do you help open a door for healing? When confronted with these situations, we have the opportunity to help open a door to healing and developing our skills and knowledge of resources is critical.

We are blessed to have Mary Henderson, licensed individual and family counselor, author and veteran international missionary lead us through how to be helpful when we find ourselves in these conversations. Mary has served as a missionary in the U.S., New Zealand, Eastern Europe and Asia and is the author of “Break Free: Journey with God Through Chronic Illness to Health.” 

All are welcome to attend and ReWork would love to extend the invitation to anyone interested to join us. Even if you are volunteering with another organization or church, you are absolutely invited to benefit from Mary’s experience and training.
